When Christian exposes Davis' secret sexual desire, Davis' rejects Christian for being shallow and empty. The encounter shatters each boy's reality and draws the two into a passionate romance that risks destroying their lives. Latter Days is a charming, sexy, and moving tale that will leave you believing in the transformational power of love.***
nope, I'm not making this up. Its the plot of the movie Latter Days, which I recently watched on dvd. I'm not really into romantic movies but I was curious... (hehehe) IT HAS A GAY THEME! (duh) which made it interesting, and instead of the usual girl/girl makeout scenes that hollywood likes to stick in movies, it has... well, you get the idea.
Honestly, I watched it 'coz i was really curious, most romantic films that have heterosexual protagonists have the usual boring plots - they meet (bump) each other, take one look, falls in looove, spends the rest of the movie either
1) doing stupid stuff to get him/her to fall in love, or
2) defying odds/destiny/their families/etc just to be together.
You've seen one romantic flick, you've seen 'em all. I mean, how many new twists can people come up with just to make romantic films interesting?
ENTER: 2 males - kissing scenes, SEX scenes (not explicit, but... hehehe.)
Anyways, I actually didnt think they could make this flick work... dont get me wrong, i'm not a homophobic bigot, but I thought that a movie with homosexual male characters might not effectively show "romantic" love without making it look, well, either brotherly or skanky. This movie was a surprise though - they actually made it work, made the love between these two people seem... natural, normal. It gives "straight" people a peek into the UNKNOWN or at least challege their preconceived notions on homosexual relationships. Its a good movie, not OSCAR-winning good, more like Teen's Choice Awards. But at least it didnt suck too much (no pun intended).
***got this off the back of the dvd
